Our mission at Trellis requires a strong team of dedicated professionals who find fulfillment in working alongside and supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since our clientele benefit from having a support system with diverse backgrounds and abilities, we’re regularly scouting for good additions to our team.
“It’s an amazing work environment at Trellis — everyone has different knowledge and uses it for collaborating to make great outcomes for our clients,” says Trellis Employment Specialist Sinjin. Sinjin is relatively new to the company but already feels confident in sharing advice for newer employees. “I always say to my coworkers, if they are having a stressful day: take this job like the ocean. It’s not a straight line toward getting the understanding you need to succeed. Sometimes there are waves. But you will get there, and you’ll have more knowledge than you thought from the experience.”
Trellis operates from a set of well-practiced guidelines and methods, but being able to call on past experience and personal history can be an advantage when helping clients thrive. It’s a real community feeling, Sinjin explains; a group of teammates who all come together to help clients. Sinjin’s previous career was as a front-end customer service manager in grocery, so he has direct experience with many of the tasks and requirements of that industry. “Working in customer service helped me learn how to have open-ended communication with people and to really listen.”
Sinjin is excited to continue growing with Trellis and hopes to stay with the company as long as he can to continue learning and taking in knowledge to benefit his support of clients in the employment sphere. Finding long-term work is a challenge for many people in the job market currently, and for those who face additional barriers to employment, it can feel even more difficult. But that’s why Trellis was founded — to provide the support our clients need to participate in the local labor economy.
“Anyone and everyone is welcome on the Trellis team,” says Sinjin. “All types of personalities do well here. It’s a unique job.” Diversity of background and identity are assets when it comes to providing solutions and successful outcomes for clients, and Trellis encourages those who have a strong desire to make a difference to explore current open opportunities.
